Privacy Policy
Created November 1, 2026
This privacy policy explains what information this website collects when you visit, what it doesn't collect, and the choices you have. We've kept it short and readable on purpose.
What we collect
Like most websites, our server keeps standard log files when you load a page. These record your IP address, the page you visited, the time of the visit, and the type of browser or device you used. We use these logs to keep the site running, spot errors, and understand which guides people actually read so we can improve them.
If you post in the comments or discussion area, the name and text you submit are stored so your comment can be displayed. Don't post personal tax details there — never share your TIN, NIC number or OTP publicly, here or anywhere else.
What we never collect
We never ask for, and you should never send us, your NIC number, TIN, IRD PIN, password, bank details or one-time passwords. The IRD's verification and registration tools need some of those details, but they run on the IRD's own portal at eservices.ird.gov.lk — not here. If any page ever asks you to type your TIN or NIC into this site, stop and let us know through the discussion area, because it isn't ours.
Cookies
This site may use basic cookies to remember simple preferences and to measure visits in aggregate. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the guides will still work. Third-party services we link to, including the IRD's own websites, have their own privacy practices, and we can't control what they collect once you leave this site.
How information is used
Log data is used only for running, securing and improving this website. We don't sell visitor information, and we don't build profiles of individual readers. If the law ever required us to hand over server logs, we would only provide what we are legally compelled to provide.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this site handles information, we'll update this page and note the date of the change. Checking back here is the best way to stay current with the policy that applies to your visit.
