Short answer: there is nothing to download here, because there is no IRD app or file to download. Everything the Inland Revenue Department offers — TIN registration, TIN verification, return filing — runs as an online service on its official e-services portal. You use it in your web browser. No installation, no APK, no software package.

Use the official portal instead

The button on this page takes you to the official IRD website, ird.gov.lk. From there you can open the e-services portal to register for a TIN, verify an existing registration with your NIC and an OTP, or sign in to your tax account. Bookmark those two addresses and type them directly into your browser whenever you need them. That's the safest habit with any government service.

Watch out for fake "IRD app" downloads

Because TIN registration became compulsory for every adult — and the certificate became compulsory for bank accounts, vehicles and land from November 2026 — scammers have an audience. Expect to see pages and messages offering an "IRD Sri Lanka app", a "TIN registration APK", or a downloadable registration form in exchange for a fee or your personal details. The IRD does not distribute an app for TIN registration, and registration itself is free. A file offered by anyone else is, at best, useless. At worst, it steals the NIC details and one-time passwords it asks you to type in.

Three quick checks before you trust any tax page: does the address end in ird.gov.lk or eservices.ird.gov.lk? Did you arrive by typing the address yourself rather than clicking a chat or social media link? And is anyone asking for payment for a service the IRD provides free? If the answer to the last one is yes, close the page.

What you might legitimately download

Two things only, and both from the official portal: your TIN certificate, which the IRD emails you as a PDF after your registration is approved, and the printout of your verification result, which is accepted in place of the certificate for the transactions that require one.
